About

Portrait of Marco Julio Franco

Hi! I’m Marco, from Mexico, now living in France, switching between Spanish, English and French. I’m curious by nature, so besides Flutter I work with Python, Bash, Go, n8n and AI agents.

I like going to conferences, and I’m actively looking to take part in them as a speaker, not just as an attendee. I studied Computer Systems Engineering at ITSCH and co-authored three papers on AI and Machine Learning, published in 2020. And when I have time, I sneak off to a jam session, because music has shaped a lot of who I am.

How I work

What these years have taught me, and what I bring to every project.

  1. 01

    Write it down first

Before I code, I write down the flow and the reason behind each decision. At GPAC I lead the documentation of processes, features and tickets, and the Patrol step taught me that this has to come before the first line of code.

  2. 02

    Functional before perfect

Lagom · just the right amount

I think first about the person using the app and what we’re actually giving them. I’m strict with the code, but I don’t get lost in details nobody will notice.

  3. 03

    Fail fast, fail first

It’s better to fail fast and first, before the user ever runs into it. That’s why integration tests cover the key flows before anything else, the ones that have to work every time. At GPAC we write them with Patrol.

  4. 04

    Automate the road to production

    Sisu · grit, staying power

At GPAC every change takes the same road to production, through checks, tests, build and release. I set it up that way so quality doesn’t depend on anyone’s mood that day.

  5. 05

    Ask why from day one

Before I build a feature, I ask why it was chosen. And if a process is missing, I propose it and set it up, without waiting for someone to give me the title.

  6. 06

    People first

We’re human, and it’s easy to forget. Mental and emotional health comes before money. I learned that at Ikon, with a team I’m still in touch with.

Music

Outside of code I compose and arrange as Marco Muric, mixing my jazz fusion, Latin and rock influences across instruments. The only limit is mental, and the options are endless.

About

Only to reply to you.

I can also

  • Give a talk

I can talk about Flutter architecture, CI/CD with Bitrise and Azure DevOps, or testing with Patrol, always with examples from projects I’ve worked on. I’ve given an online Flutter talk for a university in Veracruz and presented a paper at an AI conference in Orizaba.

  • Collaborate on open source

I maintain Flutter Build Patrol, the Bitrise step that builds Patrol tests for Android and iOS. If you use it and something breaks or is missing, open an issue or just write to me.
