Pro Jam
Jam session organizer
Problem
At a jam session you get on stage and improvise with musicians you don’t know, whether it’s ideas, songs or jazz standards. Living in Paris, I went to several jams a week and realized each one organizes its musicians and each group’s time its own way, sometimes better, sometimes worse.
How it’s built
A Flutter app with Cubit. I wrote the backend in Go as a layer on top of Supabase, so the app doesn’t depend on its library directly. I designed it in Figma, and analytics run on Mixpanel.
What I did
I’m building it alone. I started with the mockups in Figma and the beginnings of a design system, then sign-in in Go with Supabase and the base of the Flutter app. I passed on Firebase because of pricing, and picked Go over Python or Dart because I already knew it and it lets me move faster. Gemini helps me with the code.
How it’s used
First it’s for the host, to run the live stage, who plays with whom and for how long. Later, musicians who met at the same jam will be able to find each other for collabs.
Where it stands
Still in progress, in my spare time. Jams changed me and shaped a lot of who I am, and bringing my two passions together in one app gives me a kind of joy I didn’t know. Fusion doesn’t only happen in music. The screens below are from the current build.
What I learned
Doing alone what four teams usually do is harder and easier than I thought. A lot of things have to wait, and I’m learning that you have to let some things go to win others.
